One such scam involves fake property liens. It threatens taxpayers with a tax bill from a fictional government agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some details about the property lien scam that will help taxpayers recognize it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This scheme involves a letter threatening an IRS lien or levy.<\/li><li>The scammer mails the letter to a taxpayer.<\/li><li>The lien or levy is based on bogus overdue taxes owed to a non-existent agency.<\/li><li>The non-existent agencies might have a legitimate-sounding name like the \u201cBureau of Tax Enforcement.\u201d There is no such agency.<\/li><li>This scam may also reference the IRS to confuse potential victims into thinking the letter is from a real agency.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For anyone who doesn\u2019t owe taxes and has no reason to think they do should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration to report the letter. The taxpayer should use their&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/links.govdelivery.com\/track?type=click&amp;enid=ZWFzPTEmbXNpZD0mYXVpZD0mbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIwMTkwOTI2LjEwNzAxNTgxJm1lc3NhZ2VpZD1NREItUFJELUJVTC0yMDE5MDkyNi4xMDcwMTU4MSZkYXRhYmFzZWlkPTEwMDEmc2VyaWFsPTE2Nzg3MDM4JmVtYWlsaWQ9aGlnaHdheUBwY3VhLm9yZyZ1c2VyaWQ9aGlnaHdheUBwY3VhLm9yZyZ0YXJnZXRpZD0mZmw9Jm12aWQ9JmV4dHJhPSYmJg==&amp;&amp;&amp;128&amp;&amp;&amp;https:\/\/www.treasury.gov\/tigta\/contact_report_scam.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting<\/a>&nbsp;web page.
